Gustav was the second child and only son of Gustave Senger and Emily Watson. His father died when he was only five and Gustav was brought up by his mother.
He was a tea packer and lived virtually all of his life in the area of Leyton/Stratford in East London. When their home in Bow Street was demolished for redevelopment in c 1974, Gustav and wife Doris moved to Walton-on-Naze in Essex.
